Children were escorted home by police after officers were called to reports of a man making threats with a knife in Newport. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody.
Incident on Hendre Farm Drive
Police were called to reports of a disturbance in Hendre Farm Drive in the Ringland area of Newport on Wednesday evening. The reports claimed a man was threatening people in the area, near Ringland shops, with a knife.
Children were present and had to be escorted home by officers who arrested the man. He remains in police custody at this time.
Police statement and search
A spokesman for Gwent Police said: "We received a call regarding a disturbance on Hendre Farm Drive, Newport, at around 6pm on Wednesday, September 23. Officers attended after receiving that a report that a man was making threats to others while holding a knife. A 39-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody as inquiries continue."
"Officers carried out searches of the person and the area and no knife was located."
