Netflix star Stewart McLean, best known for his role in the series Virgin River, has been found dead after going missing last week. The 45-year-old actor's remains were discovered in the Lions Bay area of British Columbia, Canada, according to the province's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).
McLean was last seen at his home in the small community of Lions Bay on Friday, May 15, about 30 minutes from Squamish and 45 minutes from Vancouver. A missing persons report was filed three days later, prompting a search. The Squamish Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have now transferred the case to the homicide team, which is treating the death as suspicious.
IHIT stated: 'As the investigation continues to unfold, homicide investigators are working to collect and analyse evidence, review CCTV footage and conduct interviews to build a timeline of Mr McLean’s activities prior to May 15, 2026. We are pursuing all available leads as we work to find answers for the family, friends and loved ones of Mr McLean.' No suspects or motives have been disclosed.
McLean's talent agency paid tribute, with agent Jodi Caplan describing him as a 'beloved client' who was 'dedicated, professional, eager, and endlessly funny'. Fans have also expressed condolences on social media. McLean, originally from Edmonton, began acting in 2015 and appeared in shows such as Arrow, Beyond, and Travelers, in addition to Virgin River, which marked his final role in March this year.
