The sister of Minnesota Timberwolves player Naz Reid was shot dead at a New Jersey apartment complex by her boyfriend, who has been charged with murder, authorities said on Monday.
Police responded to the Paragon apartment complex in Jackson around 11am on Saturday after receiving reports of shots fired. They found Toraya Reid, 28, unresponsive near the complex's exit with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers also observed Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson running down a nearby road and took him into custody without incident.
In addition to murder, Green faces two weapons charges. Police stated that Reid and Green were in a dating relationship, but no further details were provided. Green remained jailed on Monday, and prosecutors were unaware if he had retained legal representation.
Naz Reid, a New Jersey native and former standout scholastic player in his home state, is entering his seventh season with the Timberwolves and recently signed a five-year contract. He was named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year for the 2023-2024 season. Reid's agents did not respond to requests for comment.
