A naked 31-year-old man armed with a machete was subdued by police using a stun gun in Bielsko-Biała, southern Poland, after a street rampage that included smashing windscreens and chasing pedestrians.
The man allegedly leaped onto passing vehicles, shattered windscreens, struck street lamps, pursued pedestrians and caused damage to an ambulance. Officers equipped with helmets and shields used a taser to bring him down.
Incident in Wapienica district
The dramatic scenes occurred at approximately 1.30pm on Monday, September 21, in the Wapienica district. Eyewitnesses reported the man was completely nude, extremely agitated and brandishing a large blade resembling a machete.
He was slightly bleeding when initially spotted in the road. Video footage captured him sprawled across a car bonnet as a female motorist lurched forwards and backwards attempting to dislodge him.
Police response
Police spokesperson Sub-Lt Sławomir Kocur said: "Officers approached him from a safe distance. The man did not respond to any commands. He was quickly overpowered. Officers used a direct coercive measure, which was a stun gun."
He confirmed no one sustained injuries during the incident. Unofficial local reports suggested he may have been under the influence of drugs at the time.
Aftermath and investigation
The man subsequently provided incoherent explanations for his behaviour, including claims that he had just departed A&E. Police escorted him to the provincial hospital, where he remained overnight under observation with officers stationed at his bedside. Blood tests were requested.
Officers are awaiting his recovery before conducting an interview. Property damage continues to be evaluated by authorities, and the probe carries on.
