Mystery graffiti targets celebs like Danny Dyer in Newcastle

A mystery vandal has covered walls in the West Denton suburb of Newcastle with a series of bizarre claims about A-list celebrities, baffling locals and prompting speculation on social media.

The graffiti targets stars including EastEnders actor Danny Dyer, daytime TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, singer Rita Ora, TV host Dermot O'Leary and Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall. While some slogans are too crude to print, others have left residents puzzled.

Wild claims and council response

One tag claimed pop star Jessie J "doesn't donate 10p to charity at the checkout", while another insisted Jade Thirlwall "buys makeup from Poundland". A third claim said Lorraine Kelly was "barred from Wetherspoons for stealing cutlery".

Newcastle City Council attempted to remove the graffiti by painting over it, but the street artist struck back with a new message declaring: "Danny Dyer Smokes Parma Violet Vapes". The graffiti appeared in an underpass between West Denton Way and Cornhill, and also included a reference to a song by London singer-songwriter Rose Gray.

Social media speculation

People on X have been guessing who might be behind the unusual messages. Gary Morrison wrote: "These gems can't be a kid, they are all gems for people around 35 to 45." Another post suggested: "Neat writing and they're all about other women judging by the names. I would hazard a guess and say that a woman did it."

Other graffiti included: "Rita Ora has the Lidl Plus App," "RIP Bonnie Tyler, Total Eclipse of our 'eart'," "Stacey Solomon gives Joe a sticker for helping with the dishes," and "Alesha Dixon made bairns cry at the Hoppings."

A spokeswoman for Newcastle City Council said the authority was aware of the graffiti and taking action to remove it.
