Lisa Smith, aged 33, was discovered with severe head injuries at a property on Fernside Avenue in the Almondbury area of Huddersfield in the early hours of Friday, 19 December 2025. Emergency services were called at 12.26am and she was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Despite medical efforts, Lisa passed away on the evening of Sunday, 21 December. West Yorkshire Police have confirmed her death is now being investigated as a murder. A forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
A Legacy of Hope and Community Support
In a tragic turn, Lisa's final act was one of profound generosity. As a registered organ donor, she was able to offer hope and life-saving assistance to others. Her family expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming community support that has helped her six children.
In a heartfelt statement, her mother said: "Lisa had one final party she needed to attend to make sure she could spread some Christmas magic. She did what she does best by helping other families have a special Christmas." She added that the kindness shown "explained how very loved she really was and still is."
Friends and neighbours have flooded social media with tributes, describing Lisa as "the most selfless human being" and a "bubbly kind hearted person" with a "heart of gold." A fundraising page has been set up to assist her mother with funeral costs and support for Lisa's children.
Police Investigation and Court Proceedings
West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Enquiry Team continues to investigate the incident. Gareth Brook, 34, was previously charged with Section 18 wounding with intent in relation to the attack. He appeared in court on Saturday, 20 December, and was remanded in custody to next appear at Leeds Crown Court on 16 January 2026.
A police spokesperson stated that court proceedings will be updated to reflect the findings of the forensic post-mortem and the change in the status of the investigation to murder.
