A manhunt is underway in California after a murder suspect was accidentally released from jail last week. The Contra Costa sheriff's office confirmed that 20-year-old Isaiah Jamon Andrews of Kent, Washington, was mistakenly freed from the Martinez detention facility on 22 October.
At the time of his release, Andrews was being held on local charges, a juvenile warrant out of Sacramento, and an out-of-state arrest warrant for homicide. After staff realised the error, officers launched a search of the immediate area but confirmed that Andrews was no longer in the vicinity.
The US Marshals Service is leading the ongoing search, and local law enforcement agencies have been notified. Andrews had been arrested by California police earlier this month and was identified as a wanted homicide suspect by Seattle police, who connected him to a fatal shooting on 15 October in Northgate, Seattle.
Andrews is suspected of killing a 20-year-old man in a hotel car park. He was being held at the Martinez facility awaiting extradition to King County, Washington. The Contra Costa sheriff's office and Seattle police have been contacted for further comment.
