Police investigating the death of a 56-year-old man following violent disorder in Pontnewynydd believe the incident involved members of two rival motorbike clubs, the Vikings and the Hells Angels.
Fatal Incident in Mill Street
Officers were called to reports of violent disorder involving a group of men in Mill Street at around 7.15pm on Thursday, August 6. Three men were taken to hospital, two of them initially described as critically injured.
On Saturday evening, Gwent Police announced a murder investigation had been launched after Anthony "Tony" Jones, from Brecon, died from injuries sustained in the violence.
Arrests and Bail
Ten men, aged 31, 33, 34, 39, 40, 40, 45, 59, 61 and 73, were arrested in connection with the disorder. Three men, aged 39, 45 and 61, have since been released on bail. The other seven remain in police custody.
Senior Investigating Officer Laura Bartley said: "We remain in the early stages of this complex and fast-moving murder investigation. Our investigation is progressing at pace and multiple arrests have been made. Detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Thursday's incident, including the actions and movements of those involved before, during and after the disorder."
Appeal for Information
Investigators are also seeking 40-year-old Anthony Paul Jones, who they believe may be able to assist their enquiries. Police want to locate a blue Ford Transit van with registration MA23 FLC, reportedly involved in the disorder and missing its front lower nearside panel.
