Teen Charged with Manslaughter After Woman Dies in North Shields Bar Attack

A 19-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a woman in North Shields. Liam Moor, of Telford Street in East Howdon, appeared before Bedlington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after being remanded in custody.

Emergency services were called to Russell Street shortly after 10pm on Saturday following reports of an altercation. Lisa Denton, 40, from the North Shields area, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital in a critical condition. She died the following morning.

Police had initially arrested Moor on suspicion of murder. A woman in her 50s was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

A cordon was in place outside Charlie's Bar on Russell Street, which remained closed on Monday. The cordon has since been removed as investigations continue.

Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team is leading the inquiry. Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr said: 'Our thoughts remain with Lisa’s family at this difficult time. We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.'
