A murder investigation has been launched after a 56-year-old man died following violent disorder in Pontypool, South Wales. Seven men have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Victim identified
Anthony Jones, known as Tony, 56, from Brecon, died in hospital. His family are being supported by specialist officers.
Police were called to reports of violent disorder involving a group of men in Mill Street at around 7.15pm on Thursday, August 6.
Arrests and investigation
In total, seven men – aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73 – have been arrested in connection with the disorder. All seven remain in police custody.
Three men were taken to hospital, with two initially described as being in a critical condition. Gwent Police has confirmed that one man has since passed away after sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Appeal for information
Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley said: "We recognise that reports of this nature will cause concern in our community, but we have officers working around the clock conducting enquiries as part of the investigation.
"We're trying to establish the movements of those involved both before and after the disorder and are asking motorists who were driving along Hospital Road, Mill Road and the surrounding areas between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday to check their dashcam footage.

Scene examination
On Friday morning, a police cordon remained in place at Mill Road and Hospital Road as investigators continued to piece together the sequence of events. Forensics officers were active at the scene, placing evidence markers on the ground outside Pontnewynydd sports and social club.
