Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found attempting to dump a body in the River Thames at Deptford. Officers were called to Deptford Wharf at around 3am on Wednesday following reports of suspicious activity.
Upon arrival, they stopped a car and discovered the body of a man in his twenties in the boot. The victim had sustained head injuries. The driver, a man in his fifties, was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being questioned at a south London police station.
It is understood the attempt to dispose of the body failed because the tide was out. Detective Chief Inspector Diane Tudway of the Homicide and Major Crime Command is leading the investigation.
Police believe the victim was murdered at an address in Thornton Heath. The two men are related to each other. A woman was also arrested in Thornton Heath in connection with the incident. Officers have stated they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the case.
