A 93-year-old woman who died after being attacked in her room at a care home in Catford has been identified as Eileen Dean. She was found with serious injuries to her head and neck in the early hours of January 4 at Fieldside care home.
Mrs Dean was rushed to hospital but died from her injuries. A fellow resident, Alexander Rawson, 62, who lived next door, has been charged with her murder. He appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from HMP Thameside on Monday.
Prosecutor Paul Jarvis told the court that a 999 call was made at around 12.30am. 'It was very quickly ascertained a lady called Eileen Dean, who was 93-years-old and living in the room next to the defendant, was on her bed covered in blood, having sustained serious injuries to her head,' he said.
Rawson spoke only to confirm his name during the hearing. Judge Anthony Leonard QC remanded him in custody until a plea hearing scheduled for March 25. Rawson has not yet entered a plea to the murder charge.
