A police officer in Munich was shot in the head at a metro station after a suspect seized her service pistol and opened fire, also wounding two bystanders. The incident occurred at the Unterfoehring station on Tuesday.
The officer sustained life-threatening injuries, while the two bystanders were less seriously hurt, according to Munich police spokesman Marcus da Gloria Martins. The suspect was seriously injured after being shot by police and has been taken into custody.
Authorities have stated that the attack does not appear to be terrorism-related. The suspect is believed to have acted out of personal motives, not political or religious ones, Da Gloria Martins told reporters.
Police were initially called to the station following reports of an altercation between passengers on a train. Upon arrival, the suspect attempted to push officers onto the tracks before grabbing the officer's gun and firing multiple shots. He was then shot by police and apprehended.
