A young mother is fighting for her life in hospital after being shot multiple times inside her south-east London home, with her one-year-old son present, in a shocking Christmas Eve attack.
Shooting Details and Police Investigation
The Metropolitan Police are urgently investigating the incident, which occurred at around 11pm on Wednesday, 24 December, at a property on Cronin Street in Peckham. According to detectives, two men wearing hooded clothing approached the front door of the home and fired at least seven rounds through the closed door.
The victim, who was inside the property with her infant son, sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was rushed to a major trauma centre via ambulance and spent Christmas in a critical care unit, where she remains in a life-threatening condition.
Miraculously, the one-year-old boy, who was in the room at the time, was not physically harmed. Following the shooting, the two suspects fled the scene on foot in the direction of Commercial Way.
Appeal for Witnesses and Information
Detective Inspector Jordan Gardner, who is leading the investigation, described the event as a "shocking act of violence" carried out at a family home where a young child was present.
"It is vital we identify those responsible and ensure justice for the victim," DI Gardner stated. "We know there will be people who saw or heard something that could help us. Even if the information seems minor, please come forward."
Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of Cronin Street, Commercial Way, or Moody Road between 21:45 and 23:45 hours on the night of 24 December. They have asked anyone with information to call 101, quoting the reference CAD 6674/24DEC25. Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Context of Recent Gun Violence
This brutal attack in Peckham came just two days after another shooting incident in the nearby area of Bermondsey. In that case, on Sunday, 21 December, a man and a woman, both in their 30s, were shot near Southernwood Retail Park.
That incident prompted a significant police response, with Oxley Close sealed off by cordons. The Met Police confirmed both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries—a man was shot in the shoulder and a woman in the leg. Enquiries into that shooting are also ongoing under the reference CAD 4534/21DEC.
The back-to-back shootings in south-east London have heightened local concerns about gun crime. The Metropolitan Police continue their investigations into both events, appealing for public assistance to bring the perpetrators to justice.
