Montana's attorney general has released the names of four people fatally shot at a bar in Anaconda on Friday. The victims are Daniel Edwin Ballie, 59; Nancy Lauretta Kelly, 64; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 74, all residents of Anaconda.
The suspect, Michael Paul Brown, 45, a former US army soldier, remains at large. Officials warn he may be armed and is believed to be driving a stolen car containing clothes and camping gear. Brown is suspected of carrying out the mass murder with a rifle that law enforcement believes was his personal weapon.
Attorney General Austin Knudsen described Brown as an unstable individual who killed four people in cold blood for no reason. He urged the public to call 911 if they see Brown, noting that there is a $7,500 reward for information leading to his capture.
Brown served in the army from 2001 to 2005, including a deployment to Iraq, and later in the Montana National Guard until 2009. His niece told the Associated Press that Brown has struggled with mental illness for years and that the family had repeatedly sought help.
Local events were cancelled over the weekend as the search entered its third day. Authorities have searched areas where Brown hunted and camped as a child. The last confirmed sighting of Brown was on Friday afternoon.
