A 35-year-old mother-of-two and gym owner has died after the balcony she was standing on collapsed during a birthday celebration in Brazil. Lorenna Moraes fell approximately four metres, sustaining serious injuries and suffering cardiac arrest twice.
Paramedics attended to her at the scene in Uruçuca before she was transported to a specialist hospital in nearby Ilhéus. Despite medics' attempts to save her, she passed away later that evening. Lorenna ran the CT Evolução Academia gym in Ilhéus and was a familiar face within the local fitness scene.
The Incident
The balcony collapsed on Saturday, July 18, while Lorenna was celebrating with family and friends. Local reports suggested she hit her head on the kerb following the fall. Images from the location appear to indicate the balcony railing failed. The reason behind the collapse will be examined by officials.
Family and Community Mourn
Lorenna leaves behind her husband, their son and daughter, and her mother. She frequently posted snapshots of her family life on social media. In a post from May, she wrote: "Holding my children's hands, hearing their laughter and creating memories that will last a lifetime... is priceless."
Earlier in the month, she penned: "Being a mother has completely transformed me. It has taught me about strength, devotion and boundless love. And having a mother reminds me every day where my care, my courage and my way of loving come from. I am grateful for the arms that once held me... and for the arms that I can now open to my children."
In the days leading up to the tragedy, she had been expressing her enthusiasm on social media about launching a new branch of her business, which was nearing completion.
