A mother and her seven-year-old son have died after getting into difficulty in water at a west London park, police have confirmed. The incident occurred at Elthorne Park in Ealing on Saturday afternoon.
Officers were called to the scene just before 4.30pm, where the pair were recovered from the water. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The Metropolitan Police stated on Sunday evening that the deaths are being treated as a tragic accident and are non-suspicious.
Police have informed the next of kin, who are being supported by specialist officers. They have requested that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.
Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray praised the efforts of first responders and members of the public who attempted to help in the challenging situation. Local councillor Jon Ball expressed his condolences to the family on social media.
