Mother and Son Die in London Park Water Incident

A woman and her young son have died after getting into difficulty in water at a west London park. The Metropolitan Police were called to Elthorne Park in Ealing at around 4.30pm on Saturday.

The 34-year-old mother and her seven-year-old son were recovered from the water but died at the scene. Police have confirmed that the incident is being treated as a tragic accident and is not suspicious.

Detective Superintendent Pete Thackray of the Met's West Area Command Unit said: 'This is a tragic incident in which a woman and her young child have lost their lives. Our thoughts are with their loved ones.' He also praised the efforts of first responders and members of the public who tried to help.

The tragedy occurred on one of the warmest days of the year in London, with temperatures reaching 21C in Ealing. The park is bordered by the River Brent.

Next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. They have requested privacy during this difficult time.
