West Mercia Police have confirmed the tragic discovery of a missing five-year-old child, who was found unresponsive in water in Worcestershire.
Incident Details
The youngster went missing from Badsey, near Evesham, on Wednesday, July 29. Officers launched an urgent investigation and later recovered a body from water within the Badsey area. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Statement
Police stated they believe the incident was the result of drowning and that there were no suspicious circumstances. A file will be prepared for a coroner to open an inquest. The sex of the child has not been disclosed out of respect for the family.
A police spokeswoman said: "Officers were called to a report of a missing child in Badsey yesterday evening (Wednesday 29 July). Sadly, the child was found unresponsive in a body of water, and a short time later was pronounced dead."
No Third-Party Involvement
She added: "There is no third-party involvement in the child's death, and a report will be prepared for the coroner. This is an incredibly tragic incident." Police urged the public to avoid speculation online, as it is distressing to the family, and asked for their privacy to be respected.
Ambulance Service Response
West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 6.50pm and dispatched an ambulance, two paramedic officers, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car. A spokesperson said: "On arrival we discovered one patient, a young child. Ambulance staff and police worked quickly to treat the patient, but sadly, it became apparent nothing could be done to save them and they were confirmed dead at the scene."
