A missing 7-year-old boy was found dead in a neighbour's pool, police have confirmed. Harbe Nagi went missing from a graduation party late Sunday afternoon in Menands, a village in New York state.
Discovery and Initial Response
Menands Police said the boy was visiting the area and had limited familiarity with his surroundings. The force also added Harbe was autistic and nonverbal. According to WRBG media outlet, "Harbe was known to wander and explore and had a strong interest in water, the outdoors and climbing, police said. He enjoyed music, specifically the song 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'."
Lt. Kevin Schwebke stated: "First thing I want to say is we express our condolences to the family. Eight o'clock this morning, Harbe was found deceased in a neighboring pool." The boy's uncle made a post on Facebook on Tuesday to confirm Harbe had been located.
Police Statement and Investigation
A police spokesperson said: "The Menands Police Department is deeply saddened to announce that Harbe Nagi has been located deceased. The circumstances surrounding Harbe's death remain under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and as appropriate." As the investigation continues, some road closures remain in place, and residents are being asked to avoid the area until further notice.
Official Reactions
Menands Mayor Brian Marsh urged caution, saying "it's not helpful to speculate. Let this case be pursued by the experts, and I really appreciate everyone's help in the search." Local reports indicate an autopsy is being scheduled, with more information expected in the coming days.
