The search for eight-month-old Lydia Rigsby has taken a shocking and sinister turn, with Colorado police arresting her own parents after what investigators are calling a deliberate lack of cooperation and evolving, inconsistent stories.
The infant was reported missing on Wednesday from the Estes Park Campground at East Portal, with her parents, 36-year-old Travis Rigsby and 33-year-old Sarah Rigsby, initially claiming she had been abducted from their tent.
Evolving Stories and a Lack of Cooperation
According to the Estes Park Police Department, the parents' account of the events surrounding their daughter's disappearance has shifted dramatically. Initially, they claimed the baby was snatched from their tent while they slept. However, this story began to unravel under police questioning.
Authorities stated the couple "have not been cooperative with the investigation" and have "provided inconsistent information." This behaviour, combined with the changing narrative, quickly raised red flags, moving the focus of the investigation from an external abduction to the child's own family.
The Arrests and Ongoing Search
Both Travis and Sarah Rigsby were taken into custody and are now being held at the Larimer County Jail. They face charges of felony child abuse, obstructing a peace officer, and attempting to influence a public servant.
Despite the arrests, the urgent search for baby Lydia continues. She was last seen wearing a black onesie and a purple sleep sack. The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has issued an alert, and local agencies are scouring the vast, rugged terrain around the campground.
