A shooting near an apartment block in downtown Minneapolis has left multiple victims injured, with the City of Minneapolis confirming that two police officers are among those hurt.
The incident occurred just before 5pm on Wednesday, September 2. Officers from the Minneapolis Police Department responded to the scene, and a local news outlet has reported that one officer was shot in the stomach and another in the leg. At least one officer was in surgery.
Police response and social media footage
Video posted to social media showed police aiming rifles upwards at a tower block close to the Minneapolis Convention Centre. The City of Minneapolis confirmed the shooting involved "multiple victims, including two police officers", reports the Express.
The New York Post is reporting that a source suggests multiple civilians may have lost their lives in the incident - this remains unconfirmed.
Casualties and hospital treatment
Seven casualties were transported to a nearby hospital, according to Hennepin Healthcare Medical Centre. Their conditions are currently unknown.
Police have requested that the area be avoided.
