A shooting near an apartment block in downtown Minneapolis, US, has left several people wounded, including two police officers. The City of Minneapolis confirmed the incident involved "multiple victims, including two police officers."
Officers wounded and taken for surgery
The shooting occurred just before 5pm on Wednesday, September 2. Minneapolis Police Department officers responded to the scene, and a local news outlet reported that one officer was shot in the stomach and another in the leg. At least one officer was in surgery.
Police response and hospital transport
Footage shared on social media showed police aiming rifles upwards at a tower block close to the Minneapolis Convention Centre. Police swarmed the scene and have requested that the area be avoided.
According to Hennepin Healthcare Medical Centre, seven casualties were transported to a nearby hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown. The New York Post is reporting that a source suggests multiple civilians may have lost their lives in the incident, though this remains unconfirmed.
