Michael B. Jordan film set disrupted by knife-wielding man

Police were called to the New York set of Michael B. Jordan's latest film after a man allegedly displayed a butcher knife during a verbal dispute. The man, later identified as 23-year-old Alex Perez, was arrested and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Daily Mail.

Production for Miami Vice '85, which stars Jordan and Austin Butler, has begun, with a release date slated for May 2028. The set was disrupted on Friday when Perez allegedly appeared near the filming location at 11.15pm and had a dispute with someone in the vicinity.

Police Response and Arrest

The New York Police Department said Perez had displayed a knife, causing the other person to become fearful for his safety. No injuries were reported at the scene, and law enforcement recovered the knife after taking Perez into custody.

In a video shared by TMZ, Perez can be seen arguing with other men who had gathered around, with one man standing in between attempting to keep the peace. 'He's got a knife,' someone shouts as a man believed to be Perez pulls a butcher knife out of his jumper pocket before an officer arrives and handcuffs him.

Film Details and Cast

It is unknown if Jordan or any of the cast were on set at the time, and Metro has reached out to his reps for comment. Other announced stars of Miami Vice '85 include Walton Goggins, Haley Lu Richardson, John Leguizamo, and Danny Ramirez.

The plot description on IMDb reads: 'Vice detectives Crockett (Butler) and Tubbs (Jordan), from Miami-Dade's organized crime bureau, go undercover as criminals to infiltrate and dismantle southern Florida's criminal enterprises.'

Leguizamo had a small role in the original series, which starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, and revealed the show saved him. He told People: 'It was my first check. I was starving to death. I was able to eat. And now here, 40 years later in my 60s…playing kind of the lead role in the film, it's pretty exciting.'

Originally set for release in August 2027, the film, a reboot of the iconic 80s series, has since been pushed to May 2028.
