A team of former and serving police officers has completed a 3,000-mile (4,800km) row across the Atlantic Ocean. The three men, who named their team Status Code 14 after a police radio request for urgent assistance, undertook the challenge to raise money for men's mental health and cancer charities.
The team comprised Steve Dredge, a retired Devon and Cornwall Police firearms officer from Wadebridge, Cornwall; Simon Lemon, a serving firearms officer in Plympton; and Matt Inglesby, an MoD police officer based in Faslane, Scotland. They set off from the Canary Islands in December and arrived in Antigua on 10 February at Nelson's Dockyard.
Mr Dredge, who was diagnosed with PTSD in 2017, described the 60-day voyage as 'particularly brutal' but said the team's bond was stronger than ever. He added that being back on land felt like 'the first time coming back to Earth after being away'.
The row is part of a series of five endurance challenges the team is undertaking over four years. They have already completed a London to Paris Triathlon relay and a 75-mile (120km) run across Scotland. The next challenge is a 10-day ultra-marathon across Iceland in August, followed by a climb of Mont Blanc and a paraglide back to Chamonix.
Money raised is being donated to The Chestnut Appeal, a men's cancer charity, and Rock2Recovery, a mental health charity.
