A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been suspended and arrested after a damning undercover BBC investigation exposed him using appalling racist language and making violent threats while in uniform.
Shocking Footage Reveals Police Culture Concerns
The investigation, conducted by BBC London, captured Police Constable James Dowd repeatedly using racial slurs and making disturbing threats against members of the public. The footage shows the officer, who was attached to a north London borough, displaying behaviour described as "completely unacceptable" by senior police officials.
The undercover operation revealed the constable making references to physical violence and using derogatory terms for ethnic minorities while discussing his policing duties. At one point, he was recorded stating he would "knock out" members of the public under certain circumstances.
Swift Police Response Following Investigation
Scotland Yard confirmed the officer was immediately suspended from duty following the BBC's findings. The Metropolitan Police issued a statement acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations and confirming the officer's arrest.
"We expect the highest standards of professionalism from all our officers," a Met spokesperson stated. "The behaviour captured in this investigation is utterly unacceptable and does not represent the values of the Metropolitan Police Service."
