Merseyside Police are continuing to appeal for information on the identity of a woman whose body was found dumped in a park in a bin bag last month. Detectives are still searching for the identity of the woman, who they say had been suffering from a number of health conditions.
Murder investigation launched
Merseyside Police launched a murder investigation after the woman’s remains were found in a walled garden in Stanley Park, Liverpool, on Friday, August 28. Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said the woman, aged between 60 and 80, was malnourished and had osteoporosis, arthritis and COPD. As the woman had no teeth, she said dental records could not be used to identify her.
Appeal from detectives
Wilson told the Press Association: "This woman, we have no name for her. I would love, and I know the investigation team would love, to give her a name and to identify who she is. She’s been found in a bin bag in a park. It’s an appeal from me, please, if you’ve got any information about what’s happened to this woman, please come forward."
She added: "This could be someone who has a carer, who lives with a family member, it could be someone who lives on their own. We just don’t know. But clearly she did have a number of medical conditions." Police believe the woman’s body may have been in the park since the first week of July.
Extensive search efforts
Wilson said officers have eliminated 126 women who people had called about to raise concerns, since starting their appeal for information. Detectives have watched hundreds of hours of CCTV and carried out about 900 home visits, as well as working with partner agencies and the National Crime Agency to try to trace her. They are continuing to speak to people who live near the park, which sits between Liverpool’s Anfield stadium and Goodison Park, the former home of Everton.
The woman has previously been described as white and around 5ft 2ins, of small build, and with strawberry blonde hair. She was found wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.
