A masked gang executed a daring daylight robbery in Birmingham, using a car to smash into a pawnbrokers and steal a large quantity of gold and jewellery. The incident occurred at approximately 12:30pm on April 15 at H&T Pawnbrokers on Soho Road, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Chaotic Scene Captured on Camera
Footage filmed by an onlooker shows a Peugeot 207 repeatedly reversing into the glass front window of the shop. Two men, their faces concealed, were then seen smashing the remaining windows and hurriedly filling bags with stolen goods from the display. They placed the loot into the car as smoke appeared to pour from the damaged premises, with members of the public watching in horror.
Getaway and Apprehension
The gang drove off shortly after the raid, but in the chaos, one of the masked raiders was seemingly left behind. He continued to fill his bag before attempting to flee. A nearby shop owner reported that this individual was detained by onlookers before police arrived approximately 15 minutes later.
Police Investigation Underway
West Midlands Police have launched a full investigation into the theft. A spokesperson stated, "We were called to Soho Road just before 12.30pm after a car smashed through the window of the jewellers. A large amount of jewellery was stolen before the offenders fled the area." Authorities are urgently appealing for witnesses and any dash cam footage that may have captured the incident or the getaway.
Road Closures and Business Impact
In the aftermath, Soho Road BID, the business group representing the area, issued a statement on social media advising that police and emergency services had closed Soho Road from the Grove Lane junction to the Boulton Road junction. Traffic was diverted, and traders, staff, customers, and suppliers were strongly advised to avoid the section. The closure caused significant disruption, with the group urging people to allow extra travel time and consider alternative routes.
