Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports commentator Mark Sanchez has been arrested after being stabbed in downtown Indianapolis late Friday night, according to police. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said Sanchez was taken to hospital with critical injuries and later arrested for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, all misdemeanours.
Police responded to a disturbance in an alley near West Washington Street and North Senate Avenue around 12.30am on Saturday. Two people were injured, one of whom was Sanchez, who suffered a stab wound. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and a suspect has been detained.
Sanchez, 38, remains in hospital and has not yet been booked into detention. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision, and an arrest is merely an accusation, with Sanchez presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Sanchez was in Indianapolis ahead of Sunday's NFL game between the Colts and Raiders at Lucas Oil Stadium, which he was scheduled to call for Fox Sports. He joined Fox in 2021 after retiring from a 10-season NFL career with teams including the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys.
