A major police investigation is underway in Liverpool after a man was stabbed in a shocking early morning attack, with the suspect still at large.
Early Morning Horror on Breck Road
Merseyside Police were called to Breck Road in Anfield at approximately 7:50am on Tuesday morning following reports that a man in his 50s had been attacked. The victim sustained a knife wound and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition is now described as stable.
The assailant, however, fled the scene before officers arrived and remains on the run. A significant police presence, including forensic teams, has been maintained on Breck Road throughout the day as detectives carry out extensive enquiries.
Community Shocked by Violent Incident
Local residents expressed their shock and disbelief at the violence unfolding on their doorstep. One woman told the Liverpool Echo she initially thought she was "seeing things" when she encountered the heavy police presence in the early hours.
"I left the house at about 1am to take the bins out and take my dog for a walk," she said. "I saw the police on Breck Road and turned right back around. You couldn’t walk up the road at all."
The attack has disrupted the busy area, which is home to numerous businesses. Traffic was blocked at the top of the road, forcing buses and cars to divert, though pedestrians were still able to pass.
Appeal for Witnesses and Footage
Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher is leading the investigation. He stated: "We are in the early stages of the investigation to establish the circumstances of what has taken place."
He issued a direct appeal to the public: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of Breck Road last night and saw what happened or has any information to come forward and speak to us. I also urge people in the area to check your CCTV and dashcam to see if it has captured any footage, no matter how small, as any information may help with the investigation."
DI Fletcher emphasised the force's stance on knife crime, stating: "We understand the devastating consequences of carrying a knife and are relentless in our approach to targeting and pursuing criminals. The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and will not be tolerated, and can have tragic consequences... There is no place for knives in our communities."
Local shop workers discovered grim evidence of the attack. One said, "I came in this morning and saw the blood on the pavement by the taxi. I don’t know whether there’s been some sort of fight involving the taxi." Another local businessman added, "It’s unusual, you don’t get much trouble around here."
While police cars and ambulances were noted in the vicinity, Merseyside Police confirmed these were related to a separate, unrelated incident. The force continues to urge anyone with information about the stabbing to contact them or Crimestoppers anonymously.
