Three people have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an alleged axe attack in Victoria, with police still searching for the suspect.
Attack in Tyers
The alleged attacker, who is known to the victims, came to an address in the Gippsland town of Tyers at about 12.30pm on Saturday, according to a spokesperson for Victoria police.
He is believed to have attacked an elderly man and woman, and a third person with an axe, causing serious injuries.
Police search ongoing
The man, who is in his 50s, fled the address and the victims were able to call emergency services for help, police said.
A specialist air ambulance and road paramedics were dispatched to the scene. All three alleged victims were transported to hospital in Melbourne with life-threatening injuries.
The man is believed to have left the property on foot.
Public warning
Victoria police launched a large-scale search for the man yesterday and were continuing to look for him on Sunday.
The man was last seen wearing a black and mustard coloured jacket and carrying a black backpack, police said.
Police warned he may be armed with an axe and handsaw.
Police urged anyone who sees the offender to not approach the man and immediately contact Triple Zero (000).
