Manchester Airport Police Stop Drivers for Vehicle Checks

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been stopping drivers at Manchester Airport, conducting proactive vehicle checks around Terminal 2. Officers have been seen speaking to motorists near a car park, with images shared by the force showing police cars in attendance and vehicles pulled over upon exit.

Purpose of the Checks

The checks are part of GMP's Project Servator, a tactic designed to deter criminality, including terrorism. The force stated that the regular checks ensure vehicles using airport roads are road legal, help deter crime, and keep passengers and staff safe. Officers are 'experienced and specially trained to spot the tell-tale signs that someone is planning or preparing to commit an act of crime,' GMP said.

Public Reassurance

In a social media post, GMP added: 'You may see our officers out and about at any time, in any location – this is normal and part of keeping everyone safe. If you see anything that doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and report it right away.' The operation aims to provide a visible police presence and reassure the public.
