A 33-year-old man from Belle Vale was arrested after a car allegedly crashed into two parked cars in Toxteth. Police were called shortly after 11.20pm on Sunday, September 13, following reports a grey Ford Mondeo had collided with two parked cars on Selborne Close.
Incident Details
Members of the public challenged the driver, who allegedly became violent and claimed to be in possession of a weapon before running away from the scene, police said. Officers later found the man on Mulgrave Street, where a Taser was used and he was detained.
The man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken into custody. He was initially arrested on suspicion of failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
Police Investigation
Police have since carried out house-to-house enquiries in the area and are exploring CCTV opportunities as part of their investigation.
Inspector Carl McNulty said: “Drivers who get behind the wheel unfit through drink or drugs put themselves and other users at serious risk.
“Thankfully nobody was hurt during this incident, but we know the consequences of drink driving can be tragic.
“Our officers responded swiftly to this report and detained a suspect, despite his efforts to flee the scene.
“I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the members of the public who prevented the suspect from driving away from the scene and in doing so stopped him from posing any further risk.
“They too put themselves in harm’s way to protect others and are a credit to their community.”
