Man stabbed to death at packed birthday party in Birmingham pub

A man in his 20s was stabbed to death at a packed birthday celebration at a Birmingham pub. Officers attended the Beggars Bush pub in Sutton Coldfield, where the man was fatally wounded just before 2am this morning. He was declared dead at the scene.

Birthday party and livestream

The birthday party, which was due to continue until 3am, had been promoted online at the pub. Hours before the violence flared, the venue had livestreamed a singer entertaining the crowd with an Ed Sheeran song.

Police are now reviewing CCTV and urging witnesses to come forward. The local Sainsbury’s supermarket was cordoned off as forensics swept the scene.

Councillor and police response

Councillor Husham Khan said police activity remained significant this morning following the ‘extremely serious’ attack. ‘Please be respectful, avoid speculation, and allow the emergency services to carry out their work. I’ll share any further confirmed updates if they become available,’ he said.

DCI Stacey Follows said: ‘Our investigation is at an early stage, and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends today. We will continue to support them as our investigation progresses, and I’d urge anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam or CCTV to get in touch with us as soon as possible.’

Pub statement

A spokesperson for the Beggars Bush pub said: ‘We are working closely with the police as they complete their investigation, and the pub will remain closed today. We are supporting our franchisee and their team, who have been shaken by the incident, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.’
