A man is fighting for his life after being shot in broad daylight in Stoke Newington, north London, in what police are treating as a targeted attack.
Emergency services rushed to the scene near Stoke Newington High Street shortly after midday, where they found the victim with serious gunshot wounds. He was immediately taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
Police Launch Manhunt Following Brazen Attack
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police have launched an urgent investigation into the shooting, which has sent shockwaves through the normally quiet residential area. Armed officers and forensic teams remain at the cordoned-off crime scene as they search for evidence.
A police spokesperson confirmed: "We're treating this as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public, but we're appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward immediately."
Community in Shock Over Daylight Violence
Local residents expressed their horror at the violent incident occurring in their neighbourhood during daylight hours. One shopkeeper, who wished to remain anonymous, told reporters: "It's terrifying - this sort of thing doesn't normally happen round here. You don't expect gunshots in the middle of the day."
The shooting marks another worrying incident of violent crime in the capital, coming just weeks after similar attacks in other London boroughs. Police have increased patrols in the area to reassure concerned residents.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police via 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
