A man was taken to hospital after a major emergency response in Benwell, with police and ambulance crews descending on Fairholm Road.
An eyewitness reported seeing a man in a blood-soaked top being carried from a building and taken away in an ambulance. The incident is understood to have occurred shortly before 5.38pm.
Witness describes scene
Steven Chilton, 44, told ChronicleLive he saw the man being carried out with a "bloody T-shirt" and estimated there were "ten to 15" police officers at the scene, including plain-clothed officers.
Mr Chilton said: "I was at the shop and I saw a man carried out. There were loads of police around him - including a lot of plain clothed officers. He had blood all over his T-shirt. Of course you don't expect this on your doorstep."
Ambulance service statement
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 5.38pm on Friday 7 August to reports of an incident at a private address in the Benwell area of Newcastle. We dispatched an ambulance crew and a specialist paramedic to the scene."
The injured man, who has not been identified, was taken to hospital. Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
