Man on crutches attacked by gang at Glasgow shopping centre

A man walking with crutches was attacked by a gang of around 12 young men at St Enoch Centre in Glasgow on Friday afternoon. Police Scotland has launched an investigation after being alerted to the disturbance.

Footage shows assault

Disturbing footage circulating online shows a man wearing a grey tracksuit walking through the shopping centre with the group following him. A scuffle breaks out as the man is attacked by the youths, who were all dressed in black.

The man is knocked to the floor and lies motionless as the group starts to move away. However, one of them stops and repeatedly punches the man as he lies on the floor, with stunned shoppers looking on. The assault ends as the youth aims a kick at the man's head, before running toward the gang waiting outside a shop, and they all leave the scene.

Victim helped by bystanders

The camera pans towards the man on the ground as he lies covering his face with both hands. He tries to get up, and a puddle of blood can be seen under his head. Bystanders and security guards walk over and help him back to his feet, and a woman can be seen holding his crutches.

The clip ends as a security guard helps the man as he hobbles over to Boots the chemist before collapsing on the floor again. No information is available on the nature of the injuries the man suffered, as Police Scotland said he had left the scene by the time they arrived.
