A man was left with horrific injuries to his eye and a bloodied face following a brutal brawl in Tuam, Co Galway, last Friday evening. The violent incident, which involved a machete, acid, and a wheel brace, unfolded outside an opticians on Shop Street in front of horrified passers-by.
Violent disorder caught on video
Shocking video footage shows a number of men fighting in the street. At one point, a man is seen using a wheel brace to reign down several blows on another man. The victim, already covered in blood, is then sprayed with what appears to be a substance. A gruesome picture emerged of the victim with serious wounds around one of his eyes.
Feud escalation and arrests
Sources said acid was used in the attack, along with a machete and the wheel brace, according to the Irish Mirror. The incident comes amid a violent feud in the area that has escalated in recent days. Police arrested a man in his 40s in connection with the row.
Three men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were taken to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The arrested man is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a station in the Garda North Western Region.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the Shop Street area between 9:00pm and 9:30pm and has camera footage, including dash cam or mobile phone recordings, to come forward.
