A man has died after several gunshots were heard outside a busy south London pub. Detectives remain at the scene in Clapham today after a suspected shooting near The Landor pub, which killed a man.
Incident details
A section of Willington Road remains cordoned off with a forensic tent set up on the residential street after the incident at about 10pm yesterday. Residents said they heard several bangs before hearing sirens as the emergency services raced to the scene.
One person told London Now: ‘It was shortly after 10pm and I heard lots of sirens, and I heard bangs – I think it was five or something. ‘And then I said “do you think they were gunshots?”‘
Victim and response
The victim is believed to be a man in his 20s. A London Ambulance Service spokesperson told Metro in a statement: ‘We were called at 9:59pm on Monday 10 August to reports of a shooting on Landor Road, SW9.
‘We sent resources to the scene including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and paramedics in fast response cars. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. ‘Our first paramedics arrived in three minutes.
‘Sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a man was pronounced dead at the scene.’
Investigation ongoing
The forensic tent was erected on the pavement outside the Fenwick Estate a few minutes from Clapham North station. A source close to the investigation told MyLondon: ‘Specialist forensics teams have started working to secure evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Nearby houses with ring doorbells were immediately visited by officers in order to obtain any available footage.’
