A man who strangled a sex worker and dumped her naked body beside rubbish has been sentenced to life imprisonment. Tanveer Singh, 32, from West Bromwich, was found guilty of murdering Shara Millar, 41, after a trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
The court heard that Singh collected Ms Millar from the street and drove to an industrial estate for a sexual encounter. When she refused his advances, the cocaine-fuelled attacker asphyxiated her for several minutes for his own sexual gratification. Ms Millar sustained an 'unusual number' of fractures to her neck and injuries to her face and head from heavy punches.
After killing her, Singh moved her body to the roadside, leaving her virtually naked and face down, wearing only a bra and one trainer. He doused her with AdBlue, a diesel exhaust fluid, in an attempt to eliminate forensic evidence. He then went to bed and attended work the next day 'as if nothing had happened'.
Sentencing Singh to life with a minimum of 29 years, Judge Michael Chambers KC described the murder as 'both brutal and degrading'. He said: 'Having killed her, you discarded her naked body against a pile of rubbish at the side of the road. She was worth a great deal more than that.'
The judge noted that Ms Millar was a vulnerable woman trapped in drug addiction and forced to work the streets. He added: 'I find this to be a particularly cruel and tragic case.' Singh had previous cautions for obstructing police and cocaine possession, but no violent offences.
