A man involved in a 40-hour stand-off with police in Salford has been pictured launching tiles from a roof. The man has been on the roof of a building on Ash Street, near the junction with Field Street, since Thursday evening (August 13). Police have remained on the scene since as officers try to negotiate with him.
Man refuses to come down
This afternoon (Saturday), the man, who is wearing a jumper with Leonardo DiCaprio on, remained on the roof. Pictures, which the M.E.N has chosen to blur, showed him throwing tiles from the building as he refused to come down.
Firefighters and paramedics were also called to the scene. This morning, pictures showed riot police wearing protective gear on the street.
Police statement
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said officers are working to get the man down 'as soon as possible'. A cordon remains in place as crews work in the area. The spokesperson said the incident is 'in relation to an arrest attempt' for the man from another police force. 'Specialist officers and partners remain on scene, with a cordon in place,' the force spokesperson added.
Arrest details unconfirmed
It has not yet been confirmed which force the arrest attempt relates to, or what the man is due to be arrested for.
