Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a serious incident initially reported as a stabbing in Wigan was actually a dog attack, leaving a man in his 30s with severe injuries. The victim was hospitalised but is now in a stable condition.

Incident Details

Police were called to Ormskirk Road on Wednesday, June 24, following reports of a stabbing. An air ambulance landed nearby on an Aldi car park. However, further investigations revealed the attack occurred on Albert Street in the Newtown area, where a dog had caused the injuries.

Arrests and Investigation

Four people—three men and one woman—were arrested on suspicion of owning a dangerous and out-of-control dog. They have been released on bail pending further enquiries. The dog involved was euthanised.

A police spokesperson stated: "Upon arrival, officers confirmed the incident was actually a dog attack where the dog caused serious injuries to a man in his 30s. The victim was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition."
