A 39-year-old man was found collapsed in the hallway of his home in Southport, covered in blood, following a suspected attack by three men. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 2, after the victim had been at The Avenue Bar on Scarisbrick Avenue.
Detectives believe he left the venue alone and was followed by three unknown men. At around 4.45am, he was discovered at his home with serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
Life-changing injuries
At the hospital, doctors found he had suffered devastating facial injuries, including a severe laceration to his right eye that will permanently affect his sight. He also sustained a suspected fractured eye socket, fractures to his head and skull, and extensive bruising to his body.
An investigation is ongoing, with officers carrying out CCTV and witness enquiries. A 40-year-old man from Bootle was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 wounding with intent and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
Appeal for information
Detectives have now released CCTV images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their investigation. Detective Inspector Keith Swift said: "The man has suffered life-changing injuries, and it is vital that we establish what has taken place."
He added: "I would ask anyone who was in The Avenue Bar between midnight and 1am on Sunday, August 2, who saw or heard anything, or has any information that could assist our investigation, to get in touch. I would also ask anyone who recognises the man pictured to contact us, as we believe he could assist with our enquiries."
