A 22-year-old man is fighting for his life after a serious crash in Chester. The collision took place at around 5.09am on Saturday (September 19) in the Backford area of Chester, Cheshire Police has said.
The crash involved a black Kawasaki Z650 D2 motorcycle and took place on the A41 Liverpool Road near to Heath Farm, officers say. The rider of the motorcycle, also a 22-year-old man, sustained minor injuries, while the bike's passenger has sustained life-threatening injuries.
Passenger taken to hospital
The 22-year-old passenger was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries, where he remains.
Cheshire Police say the driver of the motorcycle has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving, drug driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance. He remains in custody at this time, assisting officers with their enquiries.
Police appeal for witnesses
Police are now appealing for information and witnesses. Anyone driving in the area at the time has been asked to review any dashcam footage they may have and submit it to police.
Detective Sergeant Amy Hollis said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Liverpool Road area at around the time of the incident this morning and may have seen the bike to please contact our officers.
“We would also like to ask any motorists who were driving in the area at the time and have access to any dashcams to please review them to see if they have any video footage that may aid our investigation.
“This is a serious collision and we are doing all we can to fully establish the circumstances of what took place. With that in mind, I would also like to remind everyone that this is an ongoing live investigation and to not engage in speculation, particularly on social media.”
