Man Dies After Welfare Concern in Piccadilly Gardens
A man has died following a police response to a concern for welfare in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester city centre, on Monday evening. Emergency services were called to the scene at approximately 8:10pm on July 6, 2026, after reports of a welfare concern, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
A forensic tent was erected near the Ask Italian restaurant, and police tape cordoned off part of the pavement, with officers stationed at the junction of Piccadilly and Portland Street. Police cars were also present at the scene.
Man Taken to Hospital but Died
The man was taken to hospital from the scene for treatment but sadly died. A GMP spokesperson stated: "We responded to reports of a concern for welfare on Piccadilly at around 8:12pm last night. The man was taken to hospital for treatment and despite the best efforts of emergency services personnel, he sadly died."
No Suspicious Circumstances
Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. The spokesperson added: "There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death." No further details about the man have been released at this stage.
