A man in his 70s has died following a house fire in Burnage, Manchester. Emergency services were called to Cranwell Drive at around 4.40pm on Thursday, with three fire engines and police cars attending the scene.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A cordon remains in place as forensic investigators examine the property. The fire was extinguished by crews using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets.
A neighbour said: 'I was going to go to Tesco, and I couldn't get out. It was all blocked off with emergency services. There were three fire engines, police cars, and quite a few other vehicles.' Another resident described seeing a distressed woman being comforted by police.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service stated that firefighters were in attendance for approximately two and a half hours. A GMP spokesperson said: 'Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this incident.'
