Northumbria Police have confirmed that a man in his 20s died after getting into difficulty in the sea near Cullercoats Bay, North Tyneside, on the evening of 19 July 2026. Another man, also in his 20s, was taken to hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.
Emergency Response and Recovery
Police were alerted to concerns for the welfare of the two men at around 6:30pm near Cullercoats Bay. Emergency services, including police, coastguard, and ambulance crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Both men were recovered from the water, but one was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man was transported to hospital, where he is receiving treatment. His condition is described as serious but stable.
