Man dies after being rescued from River Thames in London

A major emergency operation on the River Thames ended in tragedy after a man rescued from the water later died in hospital.

The incident unfolded near one of London's most iconic landmarks, Tower Bridge, on Tuesday afternoon, sparking a large-scale multi-agency response.

Emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police, London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade, HM Coastguard, and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), rushed to the scene following reports of a person in the water.

Witnesses reported a significant emergency presence along the riverbank as rescue teams worked desperately to locate and retrieve the individual.

Despite the swift and coordinated efforts of the rescue teams, the man's condition was critical. He was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance crews for emergency treatment.

Tragically, he was later pronounced dead. The circumstances that led to him entering the water are currently unknown.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the death, stating: "We were called at around 3:30pm to reports of a person in the water. The man was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead. His next of kin have been informed. The death is not being treated as suspicious."

The event serves as a sombre reminder of the dangers posed by the capital's waterways, even in the heart of the city.
