A 39-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to threatening Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor after an alleged incident near the former duke's residence at Sandringham. Alex Jenkinson, from Debenham in Suffolk, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday via videolink to deny using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear or provoke unlawful violence against the Duke of York.
Jenkinson is expected to stand trial at the same court on 29 July. Prosecutor Josephine Jones told the court that Mountbatten-Windsor intends to give evidence via videolink. Jones noted that there was a suggestion Jenkinson had an interest in the former prince, but she could not say whether this extended to other members of the royal family.
The alleged incident occurred shortly after 7.30pm on Wednesday, when Mountbatten-Windsor was walking his dogs near his Marsh Farm home in Wolferton, Norfolk. Jenkinson also pleaded guilty to failing to provide a blood specimen while in custody on the same day, but denied a further charge of threatening another man, Stephen Terry, in King's Lynn on 6 May.
Jenkinson was granted conditional bail, with conditions that he must not contact Mountbatten-Windsor, enter Norfolk, or go near the royal residences of Sandringham, Balmoral, Windsor, Highgrove, or Buckingham Palace.
