A man has died and a woman has been injured following a shooting in Clissold Park, Hackney, on Wednesday evening. The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of gunshots at 7.06pm.
The man, in his 40s, was treated for gunshot wounds but pronounced dead in hospital. Police are working to identify his next of kin. A woman, also in her 40s, was treated by paramedics and the London Air Ambulance; her injuries were not life-threatening and she has been discharged.
A firearm believed to have been used in the incident was recovered at the scene. Detective Sergeant Oliver Richter stated that the man and woman were known to each other, and the incident is being treated as isolated with no wider risk to the public.
Hackney Council confirmed Clissold Park would remain closed on Thursday morning for investigation. Mayor Caroline Woodley expressed gratitude to emergency services and offered support to those affected.
